We are having an absolute blast! Janae and Stefan started 2nd and 4th grade on Thursday as we drove to Niagara Falls. Both Janae and Stefan received a personalized journal for recording their trip and their own atlas. We got a great camp spot at Four Mile Creek State Park. It was right on Lake Ontario and we were camping in the field where the British landed to takeover Ft. Niagara. We could see the lake from Miss Jim B (our rv's name, made up of letter's from our first names). Four Mile is named because it is four miles from the Niagara river. On Friday we enjoyed going to Ft. Niagara and loved learning about the history. It has been occupied by the Iroquois, French, British, Americans, British and then Americans again. It has beautiful stonework from the French and what a beautiful setting where Niagara River and Lake Ontario meet.
Early evening, we left for Niagara Falls. We learned that the other four great lakes flow into the Niagara River. What a glorious evening. The weather was perfect and there were no crowds. After visiting the Canadian side last summer and the American side this summer, I can honestly say that the American side is the best! It's clean in a much more natural setting. We enjoyed walking the trails in Niagara State Park which is the oldest state park in the country. We walked right down to the Maid of the Mist and what can be said but AWESOME!!!! Many rainbows graced the American Falls and we had the ride of our lives. It was so much fun! We met a special couple from Erie, PA and enjoyed eating Perry's Ice Cream. Janae and Stefan were both very thankful and appreciative of our experience. Lot's of hugs and I love you's. We closed our beautiful day with the illumination of the falls.
Today, we are in the Finger Lakes hunkered down waiting for Hurricane Irene to pass. In the meantime, we're off to make glass at the Corning Glass Museum.
