New Bedford, September 7th

Today the weather is rainy and cold so after school this morning, we went to New Bedford Whaling National Park.  It was very interesting learning all about this industry and how it affected not only the animals but how people's lives were impacted.  In it's prime, New Bedford was one of the richest towns in America.  What was especially interesting was seeing the whale skeleton hanging in the  museum lobby.  After 11 years, the whale is still dripping oil and the lobby reaks of the smell.  (Sort of like murphey's oil soap).  The dark spots in the picture are oil.  Some of the larger whales had enough oil in their head to fill 400 large barrels.  Big money.
