| Golden sun and souvenirs. Life is good. |
Thursday, May 3rd-Now Sea World is my kind of place. Clean, not crowded, great rides, great viewing of large sea creatures, awesome shows and upbeat Dave Grusin like jazz piped through the speakers. We had a great day! Loved all the exhibits and shows. The Blue Horizon Show and Pet Rules were our favorites. The Shamu show was a bit underwhelming but it was still fun to see these glorious creatures up close. Apparently these shows have changed since the accident in Florida a few years ago. The trainers are now no longer allowed to get in the water with the whales.
Our favorite ride that we did over and over was Atlantis. It is a water ride and a killer roller coaster all wrapped into one ride. Mark and I each rode twice whereas we had to cut Janae and Stefan off after their sixth time. We had a bit of a misunderstanding at the end of the day about how many times they could ride it and some hard feelings ensued. However, as the sun was glowing golden as we left, Stefan volunteered as we drove away, thank you for bringing us to Sea World.
We stayed until it closed and then we drove a short distance to meet my mom’s California roommate and childhood friend Josie Turner and her husband, Dick. I sensed immediately why my mom loves her so and they gave us a lovely tour of where my mom taught, lived and went to church. Josie and Dick met in the young adult group that my mom and Josie started 50 some years ago at Christ Lutheran Church. Josie and Dick still attend and showed us the remodeled sanctuary. Very interesting artwork where the river of life floor transcends out of the nature scene with cross at the front. They then spoiled us with a most fun and delicious dinner at their favorite restaurant, Pernacanos. This restaurant has been here since the 1950’s and the owner who plays piano made the first pizza in San Diego in 1947. His daughters waited on us as he played the piano and Janae and Stefan sang along side him. It was fun to hear about his life as one of 11 brothers with one sister and the connections with the Turners.
