Memorial Day Weekend-We had a
wonderful time of catching our breaths and relaxing at the Coast Guard
Base. We had run around all week and it
was nice to slow down a bit and enjoy our beautiful campsite and the amenities
of the base. The highlight was eating at
the galley for lunch and dinner, delicious and cheap: A real treat especially when camping. Another awesome treat were the 1.50 vanilla
lattes at the coffee shop. We enjoyed
swimming in the pool and bowling. Though
it was windy, we did ride our bikes on the nice trails and I enjoyed practicing
in my private hut. Mark and the children
played some racquet ball too. We enjoyed
crashing our neighbor’s campfire one night and learning that he is a retired
coastie who knows June Ryan. I took a
break from pictures too and just enjoyed being.
This is a beautiful place and could easily live in this little utopia
enclave. We did visit the Two Rock
Pres. Church
just outside the gate. It was a very
small congregation but the people and pastor were very friendly. She gave a great serman on living with fire
and without fear. Perfect love from the
Lord drives out fear and she gave the children streamers on a stick that she
cleverly made as a tangible reminder of living this way. We enjoyed fellowshipping with the people
over a nice array of refreshments afterwards and learning about the rich
history of the church which was established in the mid-1800’s. Janae and Stefan enjoyed the small Sunday
School class and placing flags at the cemetery as part of the class.
The weather was sunny all
weekend and the wind subsided on Sunday.
It was warm and lovely. The Canadian geese love this place as much as
we do, and I can still hear their early morning calls.
We had debated going to visit
Nancy and her family in Downieville for the weekend. Though it would have been nice to visit with
them some more, not having to drive 6 hours round trip proved to be the right
choice for us to regroup. The only downside was the stress and consternation
not having a guaranteed campsite for Sat. night. The base is lax and unorganized with how they
handle the reservations. It all worked
out but was a bit stressful.
